Explosion-Proof Motor Prices: How to Compare Quotes from China

Concept illustration of a buyer and sourcing adviser reviewing supplier information and product requirements

Compare explosion-proof motor prices only after aligning the technical and commercial scope. Ask each supplier to identify the exact model, included accessories, documentation, testing, delivery terms and exclusions. The lowest headline price may be quoting a different purchase.

There is no useful universal price for an unspecified motor. Power alone leaves too many questions unanswered. A purchasing comparison should first establish whether the offers meet the same requirement, then explain the remaining cost differences.

Put every supplier on the same specification

Send one dated enquiry and ask for a line-by-line response. Record the proposed model, confirmed requirements, deviations and unanswered questions. Keep technical acceptance separate from commercial negotiation so a discount does not become an accidental approval of a different configuration.

Use the same destination, quantity, duty, dimensions and document requirements. Where information is preliminary, label it. If a supplier has made an assumption, display it beside the price rather than burying it in email correspondence.

Reasons motor quotations may differ
Quotation elementWhat to align before comparison
ConfigurationOutput, supply, speed, duty, mounting and environmental requirements.
Protection and documentsProposed marking, relevant evidence and accepted configuration.
OptionsHeaters, sensors, terminal arrangements and any other specified accessories.
Checks and recordsIncluded routine records, witnessed work and specialist testing.
Delivery scopeNamed place, trade term, packaging and transport responsibilities.
Commercial supportWarranty process, spare-part identification and exclusions.

Do not pay for an undefined certification promise

“Certification included” needs an explanation. Is the supplier referring to existing documents for the proposed product, a review, additional testing or an application for a new configuration? Ask what will be delivered, by whom and at which stage.

The European Commission’s ATEX information explains the relevant EU equipment framework. For your quotation, ask the responsible reviewer to identify the required route and evidence. A vague certification surcharge should not replace a defined deliverable.

Build a transparent total-cost worksheet

Record the quoted motor price separately from accessories, agreed additional testing, packing, inland transport, freight and other applicable charges. Ask the importer or customs adviser to confirm destination charges and taxes rather than treating a supplier’s informal estimate as a final landed cost.

The ICC explanation of Incoterms® rules describes their role in allocating delivery tasks, costs and risks. Write the agreed rule, version and named place into the comparison. Two prices with different delivery responsibilities are not equivalent simply because both say “shipping included.”

Use scenarios instead of invented savings

Where a cost is unknown, compare a clearly labelled scenario. For example, one offer may include a specified accessory while another requires a separate quote. Until that quote is available, show the second offer as incomplete instead of assigning a convenient low number.

Keep estimates and confirmed prices in different columns. Do not claim a percentage saving unless the underlying configurations and cost boundaries actually match. This makes the comparison useful to a buyer who must explain the decision internally.

Clarify what starts the production clock

A stated lead time may start after a deposit, drawing approval, material availability or several conditions together. Ask the supplier to identify the starting event and dependencies. Record expected factory readiness separately from transport time and receiving-site readiness.

If a faster offer costs more, ask what supports that date. A workable schedule should be connected to production milestones, not just a promise in the quotation. Our production follow-up service can be scoped around those milestones.

Keep GCB fees separate from the motor purchase

For a defined starting task, GCB publishes $99 for a remote check of one supplier, $299 for one manufacturer-search round against one product brief with up to three responsive and initially suitable candidates, and $350 per person-day for a visit to one factory for up to one working day. Travel and additional travel days are agreed separately.

These are service fees, not motor prices. Specialist testing, samples, extended coordination and logistics require their own scope and quotation. See GCB’s service fees and payment terms before deciding which task you need.

Frequently asked questions

Can you publish a standard price per kilowatt?

A single rate would conceal important configuration and scope differences. Compare written offers against a defined requirement instead.

Does a low price mean poor quality?

Not automatically. It may reflect a different specification, business model or scope. Ask what explains the difference and verify the relevant evidence.

Should I compare only factory-gate prices?

Use the same boundary for the first comparison, then add the buyer’s other applicable costs to build a separate total-purchase view.

Can a search produce fewer than three candidates?

Yes. GCB’s basic search reports the responsive, initially suitable candidates found within the agreed round, up to three. A short list should not be padded with unsuitable names.

Bryan’s Perspective

A buyer should be able to explain why one offer costs more without relying on a salesperson’s adjectives. My aim is to make the differences visible enough for you to choose. A clear comparison is more valuable than a confident claim that we have found the cheapest motor.
